Visionaries:

The State Board of Examiners has ruled favorably on a request from the
White Pine School District for the Lesgislature to pay the district $373,000
for school repairs as authorized under HB315. Whitepine had orginally
applied two years ago under HB315 for funding. The District's application
was approved but the $10,000,000 approved by the Legislature had already
been paid out to other school districts. Whitepine did received
about $425,000.

Dr. Daryl Bertelsen, Whitepine Supertindent, and the School Board continued to
ask the Legislature to fund the remainder of the $800,000 or $373,000. The
Whitepine patrons had passed the necessary levies to meet the requirements for
the funds.

The District took the case to the Board of Examiners (made of the the Attorney
General, Governor, Secretary of State, and Controller). I talked with the
Secretary of State today and he said the Board is recommending to the
Legislature to appropriate the $373,000. There is a possibility that
the
Governor may include this amount in a line item in his budget, but if he
doesn't the District 6 Legislative delegation will work with Legislative
leadership and JFAC to move the appropriations bill through the Legislature.
