I am out of town=2C so I have submitted my questions to Wilson here=2E P=

TWELVE ARTICLES FOR REPUDIATION
Presented to Douglas Wilson
At his Moscow Town Meeting
December 11=2C 2003

Preamble=2E Douglas Wilson has an MA degree in philosophy from the Univer=
sity of Idaho=2E Although he says that he wears this degree as a =93badge=
 of dishonor=2C=94 I believe that as one of former professors=2C I have a=
 responsibility to remind him of the standards of intellectual integrity =
that all good universities attempt to uphold=2E It is in this spirit tha=
t I ask him the following questions=2E I have made them simple Yes or No=
 questions to facilitate straight forward answers=2E

Article 1=2E Christ Church member Roy Atwood now states that =22Southern=
 Slavery=2C As it Was=22 is not a scholarly work=2E  This concession impl=
ies that it is not as credible as a scholarly work=2E When any press pub=
lishes a Monograph Series=2C it usually means that this is the best speci=
alized work that it can find=2E What is the status of this essay=3F What=
 is the status of other works published by Canon Press=3F

a=2E Scholarly or unscholarly=2C are you responsible for the work=3F Yes=
 or No=3F
b=2E Do you repudiate this work and your support for Southern Slavery=3F =
Yes or No=3F
c=2E Are other works published by Canon Press credible=3F Yes or No=3F

Article 2=2E R=2E L=2E Dabney is cited favorably in the slavery booklet =
and its co-author Steve Wilkins is an instructor at the Dabney Center for=
 Theological Studies in Monroe=2C Louisana=2E Dabney was a racist and co=
ndemned interracial marriage=2C something the Bible celebrates=2E Dabney =
also condemned the education of African Americans=2C something the New Te=
stament advocated=2E But your neo-Confederate friends have proudly republ=
ished Dabney=92s works=2C which have blatantly unscriptural positions=3F

Do you repudiate Dabney and all that he stands for=3F Yes or No=3F

Article 3=2E Your position on slavery is equivocal=2E As a moral absolu=
tist you must say that it is always wrong=2C but your support for biblica=
l slavery and Southern slavery implies that it depends on culture and the=
refore is relative=2E Dabney=92s position is very interesting=3A the ri=
ghteous Anglo-Saxon Christian has a duty to enslave people that cannot go=
vern themselves=2E The =93evil is not slavery=2C but the ignorance and v=
ice in the laboring classes=2C of which slavery is the useful and righteo=
us remedy=2E =2E =2E =2E (=22A Defense of Virginia=2C=22 page  207)=2E

a=2E Do you repudiate this Dabney on this point=3F Yes or No=3F
b=2E Do you believe that owning another person is always wrong=3F Yes or=
 No=3F

Article 4=2E Steve Wilkins is the director of the League of the South=2E =
 It stands for the repeal of the 14th Amendment (guaranteeing equal right=
s for all Americans) and the secession of 15 Southern States to form a Ne=
w Confederate States of America=2E Some would call this treason=2E

Do you repudiate the League of the South=3F Yes or No=3F

Article 5=2E George Grant and Steve Wilkins support the novel =93Heiland=2C=
=94 which has been compared to the =93Turner Diaries=2C=94 the book that =
inspired the bombing of the Oklahoma Federal Building=2E The book=92s her=
o leads a violent overthrow of a =93godless=94 federal government=2E

a=2E Do you believe in the violent overthrow of the U=2E S=2E government=3F=
 Yes or No=3F
b=2E Do you repudiate the ideas contained in the novel =93Heiland=94=3F =
 Yes or No=3F

Article 6=2E George Grant and Steve Wilkins are regular guest speakers a=
t annual meetings of your Association of Classical and Christian Schools =
and Colleges=2E

a=2E Do your unscholarly views of the Civil War appear in the curriculum=3F=
  Yes or No=3F
b=2E Do your schools support neo-Confederate and Christian nationalist vi=
ews=3F  Yes or No=3F

Article 7=2E Grant=2C Wilkins=2C and you are the principal speakers at t=
he February conference=2E The conference is called a =93history=94 confer=
ence but no professional historians are speaking=2E The slavery booklet =
was one of the publications of the first conference in 1994=2C but the fa=
ct that this booklet is now declared =93not scholarly=94 indicates that t=
his conference and its predecessors may not be scholarly conferences=2E =
Furthermore=2C if you reject the neo-Confederates=2C why are you inviting=
 them to Moscow=3F

a=2E Is your meeting scholarly and credible=3F Yes or No=3F
b=2E If No=2C would you consider moving it off campus so as to save embar=
rassment to academic community and North Idaho=3F
c=2E Doesn=92t this conference give credibility to a movement you reject=3F=
  Yes or No=3F

Article 8=2E In your slavery booklet you condemn slave owners who had se=
x with their slaves as =93ungodly=2E=94 But Abraham had sex with his ser=
vant Hagar and was convinced by his wife Sarah to abandon Hagar and his s=
on in the desert=2E

Do you repudiate Abraham and Sarah as ungodly=3F Yes or No=3F

Article 9=2E You have said that your main goal is to defend the Bible in=
 all that it says=2E Yahweh declared genocide against all the inhabitant=
s of Canaan and he made sure that it was carried out by the Israelite arm=
ies=2E Most people believe that slaughter of any group of people=2C rega=
rdless of their reputed sins=2C is always wrong=2E

a=2E Do you repudiate Yahweh for commanding genocide=3F Yes or No=3F
b=2E Do you support the international conventions against genocide=3F Ye=
s or No=3F

Article 10=2E In your slavery booklet you claim that since the Bible con=
dones slavery but condemns kidnapping=2C it was not sinful for people to =
own Africans that they themselves did not ship from Africa=2E I believe =
that is as absurd as Buddhists who rationalize meat eating because they c=
laim they were not involved in the slaughter of the animal itself=2E

a=2E Do you agree with me=3F Yes or No=3F
b=2E Do you repudiate the owning of another person=2C any time=2C any pla=
ce=3F  Yes or No=3F

Article 11=2E In 1995 the Southern Baptist Convention passed a Racial Re=
conciliation Resolution requesting that members repent for the evils of r=
acism and Southern Slavery=2E My understanding is that these are conserva=
tive evangelical Christians=2C are they not=3F

Would you have voted for this resolution=2E Yes or No=3F

Article 12=2E When the League of the South was founded in 1994=2C it rec=
ognized=2C as a way of honoring both Confederate soldiers and Scottish re=
bels=2C the Confederate flag as a Christian symbol=2C specifically as the=
 Cross of St=2E Andrews=2E In 1994 you founded your college and called i=
t New St=2E Andrews=2E

Is New St=2E Andrews a neo-Confederate and Christian nationalist college=3F=
  Yes or No=3F

Note=3A my information on the League of the South comes principally from =

This is great idea Bill. I think this would help local businesses. I would
email the Chamber of Commerce and see how many businesses would interested in
this idea.

For those that do not want to wade through the entire thesis I suggest you=20
look through this. It really is sad that people can STILL think this way. I=20=
find=20
it freighting that someone thinks that the 14th amendment to the constitutio=
n=20
was a bad thing. I have pity for anyone that is associated with this man and=
=20
thinks this way.
"In addition to his role as a director of the League of the South, Steven=20
Wilkins is arguably the most prominent member of the current neo-Confederate=
=20
clergy. A member of the PCA, and resident instructor at the R.L. Dabney Cent=
er for=20
Theological Studies based in Monroe, Louisiana, Wilkins writes for almost al=
l=20
the religious publications and groups that advance neo-Confederate and=20
Christian nationalist ideas, interpreting the historical development of the=20=
United=20
States as following a heretical trajectory that culminated in the defeat of=20=
the=20
Christian Confederate states in the Civil War. Wilkins asserts, in a manner=20
reminiscent of Genovese=E2=80=99s assessment, that the cause of the Civil Wa=
r was=20
theological incompatibility between north and south, the former having =E2=
=80=9Crejected=20
Biblical Calvinism=E2=80=9D (Wilkins, America 142). =E2=80=9C[T]he War Betwe=
en the States,=E2=80=9D=20
Wilkins contends, was =E2=80=9Ca true revolution. The foundations of western=
 culture were=20
being broken up and overthrown =E2=80=A6 Their purpose was not merely to des=
troy=20
slavery =E2=80=A6 but to destroy Southern culture=E2=80=9D (Southern pt. I,=20=
11). Wilkins=20
continues, claiming, =E2=80=9CThere was radical hatred of Scripture and the=20=
old theology [and]=20
Northern radicals were trying to throw off this Biblical culture and turn th=
e=20
country in a different direction=E2=80=9D (Southern pt. I, 11). The ultimate=
 result=20
of the Civil War, concludes Wilkins, was a Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S.=20
Constitution (ratified 1868) that trampled States=E2=80=99 rights and create=
d an overly=20
powerful and unconstitutional Federal government because it gave citizenship=
 to=20
freed slaves and guaranteed that Federal rather than State government=20
protected the rights of all citizens (America 150). Elsewhere, Wilkins has d=
efended=20
slavery and the discriminatory Reconstruction era =E2=80=98Black Codes=E2=
=80=99 of Southern=20
states (e.g. America 136-137, 148). Writing with Douglas Wilson, Wilkins has=
=20
claimed that =E2=80=9Cthe Word of God=E2=80=9D and Biblical Christian orthod=
oxy are currently=20
threatened by feminism, gay and Lesbian rights, and legalized abortion (11).=
 To=20
shield Christianity from these perceived threats, Wilkins and Wilson utilize=
 a=20
theological analysis that leads them to simultaneously build an argument tha=
t=20
defends slavery as Biblically justified. In turn, Wilkins has maintained=20
that, =E2=80=9CThe War Between the States was a war between two different wo=
rld views: The=20
old way of Biblical Constitutionalism and the =E2=80=98new=E2=80=99 way of H=
umanistic=20
Centralism=E2=80=9D and, therefore, slavery was a mere =E2=80=9Cpretext=E2=
=80=9D used by the Union to force=20
the South into =E2=80=9Cpolitical subjugation and economic destruction=E2=
=80=9D (America=20
138).=20
 =20
Wilkins also writes for the Chalcedon Presbyterian Church, recently=20
reassessing Dabney=E2=80=99s works, arguing that Confederate leaders are ide=
al role models of=20
Christian masculinity, and reiterating the theological war thesis (e.g. Dabn=
ey=E2=80=99
s, Character). Lamenting that the modern Southerner is failing the South and=
=20
Christianity because =E2=80=9Cthings which once marked the South are no long=
er present,=E2=80=9D
 Wilkins decries:
[t]he erosion of Biblical Christianity that has occurred over the last=20
century has left the South a bare shadow of its former self. Many Southerner=
s are=20
now realizing what has been lost in cultural terms but fail to realize the t=
rue=20
cause for this loss. It has not been caused by the opposition of the liberal=
s=E2=80=A6=20
It has been caused by the rejection of the historic Christian Faith of the=20
Reformation. (Christianity 13)
The solution to this lack of orthodox Christian faith, for Wilkins, is that=20
residents of the South recover their religious tradition and reinstate this=20=
in=20
a revived Confederate States of America. Indeed, Wilkins is optimistic about=
=20
this proposal, perhaps signaling the growing popularity and power of=20
neo-Confederate and Christian orthodox movements at the end of the twentieth=
 century:
Until only a few years ago, it looked as if the vision of the fathers of thi=
s=20
nation had died out completely and the legacy of reconstruction would be our=
=20
nation=E2=80=99s epitaph. Today, there are hopeful signs that God=E2=80=99s=20=
people are waking=20
up to the call of restoring true liberty in Christ to this nation and all it=
s=20
institutions. (America 150)"

This just might just top the UI's Gay Flag burning incident. What values the

Could anyone tell me what the two buildings that are being built behind
the new Deranleau's/Staples and behind Walmart/Orthodontist office? I just
noticed them today and was curious.

Douglas Wilson and Steve Wilkins are not unique.

There are other books which apologize or defend slavery.

For pro-slavery books:

George Grant, Steve Wilkins, and Michael Hill endorse the novel
"Heiland."

Michael Hill is the president of the League of the South,
<http://www.dixienet.org>.

George Grant and Steve Wilkins are lecturers at Doug Wilson's upcoming
history department.

You can find the novel Heiland by Franklin Sanders at
<http://www.amazon.com>.

This is one of the reviews of the book.

"Heiland is similar to the Turner Diaries, and is about a war between
the United States and a counter-culture. Heiland is a 'warrior' in this
counter-culture fighting the 'evil' government. It veils itself with
religion and something of a neo-Confederate element- Heiland and co. are
based in the South and are fighting against 'godless' society. In fact
it is simply another racist, anti-semetic rag which tries to hide behind
God and southern 'heritage'. It never explicitly takes issue with
minorities but the meaning is clear: only white, non-Jewish 'Christians'
are to run government. Frankly, it is as sickening, as frightening, and
ultimately as pathetic as the Turner Diaries and other similar material.
It has some interesting sci-fi elements to it- Heiland and friends
develop a weapon to take all heat away from a city, instantly freezing
to death any man, woman, child, or other living creature in the permiter
but leaving buildings intact. The protagonists use this technology to
commit mass genocide against a city controlled by the government, this
of course being justified because 'God' is on the counter-culture's
side." -- Frank Erdman from Austin, Texas United States

I have the book, and they do freeze everyone in the city who doesn't
leave after their leaflet dropping.

Debbie Gray asked about the building projects behind Walmart etc.

Someone else emailed me that the other building is going to be the Palouse
Day Surgery clinic. By the way, where is Sears going to be? In the
Eastside Marketplace somewhere? Where is used to be or? Sorry, I am very
Alzheimery...

Debbie
no comment on Neil or the BeeGees but I am currently swingin' to Dean
Martin.... as much as one can swing after wrapping 3249 Xmas presents and
wrestling a 5.5 yr old and 20 month old all day....
