Aww, heck.

Whether I or any other member of Christ Church or Trinity Reformed Church disagree with Mr. Wilson on a particular issue is not the sole consideration in this case. There is also the question of appropriateness. For instance, if a husband and wife are at odds, it is hardly appropriate or constructive for them to air their respective griefs to the general assembly of passers-by. Of course if there is grievous and flagrant sin involved, then external assistance may be required and thus applied for. But even in these more difficult situations it is unwise for either party to go spouting off to the local listserve, at least if they value their marriage. And a church is like that, because a church is a family, with the same sort of loyalties and requirements for love and grace.

Now I'm sure someone will take the above as some sort of admission of dark misdeeds committed by Mr. Wilson, which it simply is not. It is only a clarification that, even if we did take issue with something our pastor said, we wouldn't be telling you. No offense, but that's how it is.

If he didn't already have a huge family to care for, a church to pastor, college lectures to prepare, and books and academic journal articles to write, I would suggest that y'all read some of Dr. Peter Leithart's stuff, since he's Wilson's guru and by far the more insidious of the two. Mr. Wilson may be an idealist, but Dr. Leithart is, ironically, something of a revolutionary. Perhaps if concerned parties read some things less peripheral to the real issue (has anyone noticed that out of the entirety of Wilson's published works, only one tiny monograph has anything to do with slavery?), the resultant discussion would be more fruitful.

If I've missed them please correct me. Are Doug Wilson followers mandated by their beliefs to tow-the-line? Is it not possible to be the member of a group and not support everything that your pastor or church board puts in print? If individual members of Christ Church can't or are unwilling to publicly dissent, what separates this group from any other cult out there? > >Just Curious, >Richard Newsome > >P.S. >Dougciples, please don't email me privately, it just gives me the creeps.

Cell phone ‘switch’ rules a!
