It seems that homosexuals have been a small minority for many centuries
in all kinds of societies. Every time a priest, preacher, politician,
or dictator needs a few ready scapegoats to inflame the public one of
the first groups they pick on are the homosexuals. Ancient Hebrew
priests hurled alleged divine condemnation on them in their writings.
Christians and Muslims followed suit in their holy books. Dictators
like Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin also found it convenient to
persecute them. Fidel Castro persecutes them today. It is for the same
reason that certain people who claim to be better than the rest of us
like to harass them in our society. Can't they mind their own business?
They are no more likely to "convert" or "heal" gays than threats of
burning alive or being thrown into concentration camps worked as a
"deterrent" in times past. A small percentage of people are homosexual
by nature and that is that. Using them as scapegoats is just plain
cruel.
