Ditto "sniper".  The press labels anyone with a rifle as a sniper.

Wouldn't it be nice if the press, as after WWII, actually contained a 
substantial number of reporters who actually knew a tank from an 
armored personnel carrier, a battalion from a division, and a sniper 
(specially-trained, special optically-sited weapon, goes for officers 
and NCO's, shoots from concealment and from a distance...) from some 
gomer wandering around with an AK-47?
