Staff report
A man was taken into custody for a mental health evaluation this morning
after he removed his clothes and tossed garbage around property on East
Stadium Way in Pullman.=20
The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Pullman Islamic Center, =
but
is not believed to be an intentional targeting of the mosque.=20
Pullman resident Sayed Daoud discovered the man in the Islamic center
parking lot at 7:45 a.m. When approached, the man began taking off his
clothes and miming martial arts moves. Daoud returned later to find the
parking lot littered with garbage from an overturned garbage can.=20
"I think this incident has no relationship with any hate crime and was =
not
targeting anyone in the Muslim community," said Daoud. "This was a =
confused
person."=20
Pullman Police Lt. Mike Karlin said the man was taken into protective
custody on a mental health hold and will be evaluated. "Clearly, this is =
a
mental health issue," he said.=20
