The only way that a directory services get your name address and phone
number is from your local service provider. If you designate your phone
number as unpublished the information about your number will not be
released to any directory services. My friend who worked at verizon for
many years tells me that even Verizon's directory services does not have
access to Verizon numbers unless it is released to them. Please note that
there is a difference between unlisted and unpublished (according to my
friend). An unlisted number is not put in the phone book but is available
through directory services, so your statement below would be correct. An
unpublished number should not be available anywhere. If you have an
unpublished number that is listed in a directory service, you need to have
a talk with your local service provider.
