Thanks for the update. I always like these newsletters! Would it be possible on snow days for you to send out a quick e-mail to this listserve? That way we could all get the news as soon as possible and not have to sit around a radio listening for the next update (which isn't always accurate)? This would be much appreciated by many of us.

Principal's Letter

1-9-09

Dear Parents, 

We are nearing the end of the first semester and most students will have finals this next week during their regular classtimes.  We have a building-wide schedule to make sure that students don't have all of their tests on the same date.  It follows:

Finals Schedule next week

Jan. 13 - Tue:  English, Social Studies, PE

Jan. 14 - Wed: Science, Foreign Language, Math

Jan. 15 -  Thu:  Foreign Language day 2, Electives, Math day 2

Now would be a very good time to check PowerSchool to see if your son or daughter is missing any work that can be turned in for credit before the semester ends.  The staff at MJHS works hard to keep grades updated on PowerSchool and we hope you take advantage of this feature.

Our second semester starts on Tuesday, January 20.  All students will receive their new schedules next Thursday during their lunches.  Schedules are being finalized at this time, and some draft second semester schedules were visible on PowerSchool for a short time.  We will let students know that any schedules they may have seen are not finalized until their new paper copies are distributed Thursday, January 15.

Our snow day last Monday was a very necessary closure.  If you had trouble finding out if school was closed, please see the student handbook on page 3 for a list of media sources that announce school closures.  We hope to not have any more snow days, but it is good to be prepared.  In addition, whenever school is closed, all MJHS practices, rehearsals, activities and events for the day are also cancelled.  The school office is always open if safety allows from 7:30-9:15 on closure days. 

For several years we have participated in the BoxTops for Education program.  We plan to do a classroom competition in early February to raise money for a school "weather-camera", so save your box tops!  A new program called Box Tops Marketplace now exists for us to take advantage of.  The following information gives information on how to sign up:

Sign up at the Box Top Website (www.btfe.com <http://www.btfe.com/> ) to support our school and see where to shop at over 70 retail stores who help support us!

2. Shop online 

Start each shopping trip at www.btfe.com/marketplace, click the link to the online store of your choice....and shop as you normally do.  By starting at www.btfe.com <http://www.btfe.com/> , Box Tops can track earnings and automatically credit our school's account.

3. Our school earns cash 

Up to 8% of your purchase will be automatically donated back to our school, up to $20,000 each year, with no additional cost to you.

I've attached a calendar of events at the bottom of this letter.  We are in need of parent chaperones to help with our all-school Winter Dance to be held on Thursday February, 12th from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  If you are able to help out, please contact the school office or email Mr. Hill at khil at sd281.k12.id.us.   

We will send more school-wide information in the Cub Communicator at the end of the semester with Report Cards.  You should receive this mailing sometime around January 23 or 24.  Please contact us if you don't get a Report Card in the mail.  As always we appreciate your assistance and support on behalf of all the students at MJHS.
