Dear Parents,
As I write this, many folks are gearing up for the winter holiday
season! Our students are telling us that they are ready for a break,
but we are finishing up important classroom projects and there are some
important papers and tests due before we let them go Friday afternoon.
We sent Progress Reports home late last week and you should have
received information in the mail if your son or daughter has any
academic deficiencies. As always, the Parent Portal of PowerSchool is
available at all times to help you keep track of progress. If you don't
have access to the Internet, please contact us so we can make other
arrangements.
We sometimes come back after the break to find that some students made
poor choices during unsupervised time when school is not in session.
Some tips follow as part of a list of "Parenting Tips from the
Principal" that is available on the MJHS Principal's Webpage.
* Know where your son/daughter is at all times.
* Know the first and last name of the friends that your
son/daughter is with.
* If your son/daughter is visiting another home, talk to the
parent about their house rules and curfews before your child visits.
Make sure that the parent is going to be home while your child is there.
* Don't let your son/daughter visit homes that just "don't feel
right."
* Entertain your son/daughter's friends at your home after
communicating with the friend's parents.
More and more students receive cell phones as gifts. We certainly view
cell phones as an important communication tool for families, even though
they are not allowed in school during the school day. We recommend
"basic" cell phones for junior high school age students. Phones with
cameras and other peripheral features just aren't needed. From time to
time, cell phones are also stolen, and it is much easier to replace a
basic phone than one with lots of bells and whistles. I hope this
paragraph saves you a little money on your next cell phone purchase.
At the bottom of this letter is information specific to students who are
interested in participating in the 7th and 8th grade Wrestling and Girls
Basketball programs. Both activities begin with Parent Meetings and
practices right after the Winter Break. Please review the information
for meeting and practice times.
We are so thankful for the work that the MJHS Parent Support team does
for the school. The teachers have been the recipients of many treats
throughout the school year and we would like to thank all of the parents
who bring us food and other great treats. Their next meeting will take
place on Tuesday, January 5, at 7:15 a.m. here at the school. We hope
you can come to support the work they are doing for the students and
staff at MJHS.
We hope you have a restful and safe holiday season and we look forward
to seeing all of our students back in school on January 4, 2010.
Sincerely,
Dale Kleinert, Principal

7th and 8th WRESTLING: The 2010 wrestling season is about to begin at
MJHS. The first practice will be on January 4th, 2010 at 3:40 pm on the
wrestling balcony at the Jr. High Field House. Each athlete is asked to
bring all required forms (which can be picked up in the office and/or
found online at the district website) plus their $35 for the Activity
Fee. If they have not purchased an ASB Card, they will need to do so at
the MJHS Office. They will need to have a t-shirt, workout shorts, and
appropriate shoes (preferably wrestling shoes). There will be a parent
meeting January 5, at 6:00 p.m., in the Field House where additional
information about the season will be distributed. Wrestling is a no-cut
program and is a great activity for all students. I encourage everyone
to give it a try. Coach Matthew Haley
