Here are some opportunities for getting involved in your child's education:
Student Directory Assistance
Today, September 16th, we'll be inputting data for the student directory.
We'll be meeting from 5 to 7 pm in room 01. If you have some time
available, stop by: extra hands do make the work go faster. Contact

Internet Resources Presentation
There are still a few spaces available for next week hands-on presentation
by Pat Stewart: In Search of Excellent Information: Helping your students
find and use valid, reliable Web resources and databases. The presentation
will take place on September 24, 2008 from 6:30-8:00 pm. Child care is
available on request. Please RSVP to peggy at jenkinsresearch.com or call Pat
at 882-3577.
Learning effective strategies to address bullying, drugs and alcohol abuse
and problem behaviors
Finally, there are a number of seminars coming to the area in the next weeks
that focus on the some of the problems our kids may face as the enter their
teen years. The seminars are provided by the Idaho State Department of
Education Safe and Drug Free Schools Office and the Region 2 Safe and Drug
Free Schools Consortium. Most of these workshops have been designed for
educators, but they are open to parents and other community members who are
involved in prevention related activities or who are interested in learning
more about these topics. There is a small materials charge ($20-30)
associated with each training

In-Depth Look at Drugs and Alcohol and the Trends Amongst Our Youth

The following topics will be discussed: signs and symptoms of drug and
alcohol use, including prescription drugs and steroids. An emphasis will be
placed on recent trends of abuse and how to assist students.
Bullying and Aggressive Behavior at School
September 30, 2008
8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Presenters: John Raukar, Howard Manwaring
The presenters will focus on how bullying (including cyber bullying) and
aggressive behavior may be part of the school environment, the physical and
emotional effects of bullying on targets, bullies and bystanders, educators
duty to report bullying and liability, and basic strategies for preventing
and responding to bullying and aggressive behavior.
Incivilities at School: Bullying, Harassment and Hate Behaviors
October 3, 2008
8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Best Western University Inn - Moscow
Presenter: Hilda Clarice Graham
This interactive training session will take particpants on a journey through
the world and phenomenon of school bullying and explore the world of cyber
bullying. Participants will learn that within the definition of the problem
lie nuances for effective responses. Situational prevention will be
emphasized.
Self-Injurious Behavior
November 13, 2008

Presenter: Sheri Carson
This workshop aims to provide participants with a greater understanding of
self-injury, and increase participants' confidence, competence, creativity
and compassion in responding to adolescents engaged in this behavior.
