Dear Parents,

MJHS is running at full speed on our first full week of school, and
students are adjusting nicely to their new schedules. It is a big week
with lots going on. The Latah County Fair that happens this week is a
big deal for most junior high students, and fair conversations make for
lots of excitement. On the flip side, the fair also brings
decision-making opportunities that can be dangerous. Almost every year,
a colorful knife or other dangerous item is purchased that makes its way
onto our campuses.

We have already stressed to students that they are not to bring items to
school that are disruptive or dangerous. Please help us by reminding
your son or daughter to stay away from these types of vendors at or near
the fair. The consequence of bringing a knife or other dangerous item
on to a school campus is very serious, and will result in a referral to
the Board of Trustees for expulsion even if there is no intent to harm
others.

You received an email earlier today inviting you to an Open house hosted
by Pat Stewart, MJHS Librarian on Sept. 24 from 6:30-8:00. She will be
presenting a hands-on learning opportunity for parents who want to help
their kids learn to use the internet wisely. She will also be showing
parents how to access the multitude of free resources that are available
to students and families. This activity will be a great opportunity to
learn about on-line libraries and the many resources they offer.

This letter is being emailed through the MJHS Parent Listserve. This
tool is completely managed and supported by the MJHS Parent Support Team
through First Step Internet. The Listserve is a very powerful
communication tool, and we are careful to use it for important MJHS
activities announcements, information, and requests for assistance. I
would like to thank Susan Mahoney for serving as the webmaster who keeps
our email addresses updated.

It is VERY important to remember that if you "reply-all" to an email
from the Listserve, it goes out to all subscribers. If you want to send
a reply to Susan Mahoney or to me, please use the following email
addresses:

The "Parent Portal" is now activated. We hope you will be able to
access this important communication tool and use it as a positive
reinforcer for your son or daughter. Instructions and passwords were
distributed at "Back-To-School Night" and at the "New Student
Orientation". If you did not attend either function, we will be mailing
passwords to you. Passwords for returning students have not changed,
but if you've lost yours, please contact the office. We will not give
passwords out over the phone, but we will mail you another set. You can
also stop by anytime. Please keep your passwords secure.

If you see a grade that you weren't expecting on the Parent Portal
report, please consult with your son or daughter about assignments and
grades that you question before contacting the teachers. If the grade
seems to be wrong, please have your child consult with the teacher to
double-check. We believe the system to be stable, but sometimes the
system tricks us and sends some weird data. Teachers will make every
attempt to update information on the second and fourth Tuesday of each
month. Grades are works in progress until they are recorded by the
district at the end of each term.

We hope your son or daughter is off to a great start at MJHS. Our staff
works very hard to make sure every student is successful every day. If
you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give any of us a
call anytime.

Have a great week,

Dale Kleinert, Principal

Moscow Junior High School
