Dear Parents,

It seems early to have patches of snow on Moscow Mountain, but that is
what I'm looking at this morning. We've turned on the heat in the
buildings and it is hard to believe that we're already settling in for
another winter.

These cooler days remind students to bring sweaters and jackets to
school, but during the day some of the clothing somehow gets misplaced
and ends up in "Lost and Found". If you are missing items, please stop
by the main entrance and check to see if your son's or daughter's
clothing is in the "Lost and Found Closet". We are also reminding
students to check for their missing clothing, but the number of found
items seems to be multiplying each day. We will donate all unclaimed
clothing to a local charity at the end of the first quarter.

Mid-quarter Deficiency Reports were sent from our office on Wednesday of
this week. You should have them in the mail today or tomorrow.
Deficiency Reports are sent to students who currently are in danger of
being unsuccessful in any class. Please check the Parent Portal of
PowerSchool at any time to get updates on your son or daughter's
progress.

The 7th grade teams at MJHS are preparing for their annual student-led
conferences. Students will be organizing work samples from each of
their core classes to share with their parents on October 30 and 31st.
Please call the school office to schedule a 20 minute session. Six
conferences will run concurrently during the following times:

Thursday, October 30 - 3:00 p.m. - 8:10 p.m.

Friday, October 31 - 7:00 a.m. - 10:40 a.m.

Illness and homework We've had some illness in our student population
lately. What to do about school work while sick is always a question
asked of us. After three days absence, upon request to the office,
teachers will provide homework. The parent should make the request to
the office staff before 9:00 a.m. on day three and any assignments can
be picked up in the office between 3:45 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Students who
are absent fewer than three days should take advantage of the time to
rest and recuperate. If they feel up to doing some school work, they
should contact a classmate for the assignment, do some reading, or
consult PowerSchool for any assignments that are posted. Teachers will
give time for make up work.

Reporting absences Please call our 24 hour Attendance Reporting
Line when your son or daughter is absent. The number is 892-1178 and if
you need to refer to it some morning and can not find it - it is located
on the inside cover of the Student Agenda.

Important School District Meeting on Graduation Requirements.

Last Monday you should have received an email about an important meeting
that will be held at the Moscow Senior High School Commons and
Auditorium Monday, October 13. The meeting will be convened by the
Moscow School Board, which is seeking parent input on changes to our
students' graduation requirements. The Moscow School District
secondary staff has researched and reviewed the state mandated high
school redesign requirements this past year and a recommended proposal
will be presented to the Board of Trustees at this meeting. Any changes
that the Board approves will have a direct impact on students in 8th
grade and below. Dinner and refreshments will be provided from 6:30 to
7:30 pm; the meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Please attend and let your
voice be heard.

And finally, please remind your son or daughter that their cell phone
must be in the off position from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm. This includes
text functions, vibrating, etc. If you need to contact your child
during the school day, please contact the school office and we will make
sure the message is delivered quickly. Cell phones that are used
during the school day will be confiscated and returned to parents.

As always, please contact us whenever you have a question or a concern.

Sincerely,

Dale Kleinert, Principal

Moscow Junior High School
