Hi Parents!
The Next Parent Group Meeting is next Tuesday December 2d a 7:15 am in room
216. Please come if you are available. We're in the planning stages on a
number of initiatives and projects, and coming to the meeting is great way
to get informed and involved.
The minutes for the November meeting appear below.
The ever-popular MJHS T-Shirt and Sweatshirt order is in the process of
being finalized. If you did not have a chance to get your order in you have
one final opportunity if you email me today (Wednesday) or tomorrow.
(Remember that, when you send the email, don't hit "reply to all," since
that will send the email out to the entire list serve. A simple "reply"
will do.) You'll also have to make arrangements to get the money for the
shirts/sweatshirts in to school by Friday morning. Order information
appears below.
Thanks for the your attention. I hope you and your families have a
wonderful Thanksgiving!
Peggy Jenkins
You can order red shirts with black lettering, or white shirts with red
lettering, in adult sizes SM - 2XL. The prices this year are $15 for a short
sleeve shirt, $18 for a long sleeve shirt, and $30 for a hooded sweatshirt.

Meeting Minutes

Principal's Report
* Currently, the status of the Science ISAT is being discussed. The
plan was to do an integrated high-Stakes Science Test for the class of 2013,
which students will take in 10th grade. However, the State Board wants to
move it up to 2012. Now the entire concept is up for discussion, as there
seems to be a disconnect between mandating an integrated science test
without an integrated science curriculum. (For example, students will be
responsible for materials covered in 7th grade science, even though they
wouldn't have studied it for three years.) Public input will be taken at
this point, and opinions of parents should be directed to the State Board of
Education. It is very important for the board to hear from parents. There
is no funding provided for all of the new mandates.
* A gifted and talented brochure along with the Cub Communicator will
be sent out with the report cards. The Cub Communicator will have an update
about the statewide testing and the intervention process. New programming
as a part of the intervention has been very positive with the APANGEA
program. There are small labs in math classes (5 computers in each
classrooms) which target math remediation.
* Mr. Kleinert went to a middle school conference and came with ideas
to increase minutes per class as well as a book on the Epstein model,
school, family and community partnerships.
* Calendar
* Activities Assembly on Thursday at 10 a.m.
* Fall Dance on Friday from 6-8 p.m.
* American Math Test with selected 8th graders on November 18
* Israel/Palestine Trip Presentation at 5:30 p.m. on November 19
* Fall Band Concert at 7 p.m. on November 20
Safe Routes to School - Christa Davis
Christa went to a conference in Boise about Safe Routes to School. The
local program is sponsored by City of Moscow, U of I, MSD, Gritman, Law
Enforcement, Palouse Trails, Bike shops, Kimberling Insurance, and Moscow
Parks and Rec. The program was started in Denmark in the 1970's. Moscow
has one of the up and coming programs. U of I students are doing mapping of
the 2-mile parameter around schools and doing inventories at peak times.
There will be a walking surveys for parents to find out the patterns that
parents are doing. The goal is create safest route maps and to encourage
students to walk/bike with parents accompanying as appropriate. Students who
live out in the country could perhaps still walk with and park/walk
arrangement. The program goes from k-8, but will probably expand. E-mail
Christa at: christdavis at uidaho.edu
Dale also mentioned the safety issue, especially after last year's incident,
of walking together and knowing surroundings.
