[Mjhsteam] Parent Support Team Minutes for January

Dear Parents,

 

The minutes for our January 2008 PST meeting are below.  The biggest topic
of discussion at the meeting was the February 28th Parent Night, which will
feature a presentation/panel discussion by school counselors and other
professionals addressing topics including "Understanding and Motivating Your
Teen."  The event will be open to the public and child care, refreshments
and door prizes will be provided.   We hope that you put the event on your
calendars and make plans to attend!  If you would like to help coordinate
the event, please come to our next parent group meeting on February 5th.

Meeting Minutes

January 8, 2008

 

 

Principal's Report:

*	Drama Production January 10 and 11
*	Next week is the last week of the semester.
*	Students will get their schedules for next semester on January 17
during lunch.
*	No school on January 18 and 21 (Insomnia Outbreak Trip to Silver
Mountain on January 18)

*	January 31 - Winter Assembly for some winter sports that are
finished and other activities such as academic competitions 
*	6-year accreditation site visit will happen in April.  A part of
this self-study will be an on-line survey of community and parents.
*	Discussion of the attempted abduction of a female student before
Winter Break.  Parents were notified of the situation via the list serve,
which reaches 520-530 people at this time.  However, it doesn't get
everyone, especially U of I people who had already started Winter Break and
those who aren't on the list serve.  The school got the story to the local
media quickly and gave information to students before they went home.
However, that information doesn't always make it home.  This raised the
issue of the need for a way to reach more people.  Erin McCall suggested
that information could be included in the Report Card in the Cub
Communicator. 

 

Financial Report:  Peggy Jenkins - $2500, although this is an estimate as
Susan Mahoney, who was in charge of the t-shirt/sweatshirt sale, has the
figures from that sale.

 

Box Tops: Susan Mahoney will take over boxtops.

 

Curtains:  Faye Nagler will continue working on curtains.

 

February Parent Night- Kris Poncek and Sue Hand - A date was set for
Thursday, February 28 from 7 - 9 p.m.  There will be a general presentation
covering how kids are developmentally at this age and expectations to have
with a bibliography for further reading.  Then the audience will break out
into groups that will discuss relevant topics with a couple of rotations.
They will try to involve the Latah County Youth Advocacy Council.  It will
be open to the public as well.  It was suggested that day care could be
provided, perhaps through the Bear Boosters, and that students could be
encouraged/motivated to attend (via getting credit/door prizes).  Faye
Nagler will work on coordinating this event.  

 

Teacher Appreciation Event  will take place in February.

 

The next PST meeting will take place on February 5th in Room 216.
