[Mjhsteam] Moose On The Loose

Dear Parents, 

 

By now you've probably heard that we had a moose on our campus this
afternoon shortly before the end of the school day.  We were contacted
by the Moscow Police Department of the situation and they asked us to
not release students because of the unsafe situation.  Since all of our
students in the district use the same bus system, our administration had
to delay the release of all schools within the district.

 

Meantime, many parents were arriving to pick up students and we
stationed staff in the parking lots to relay information about the delay
as they entered.  Our students were not cleared to leave the building
until approximately 3:15.  

 

We would like to thank everyone who had to wait until the area was
deemed safe by the Moscow Police Department.  We appreciate the patience
and understanding that parents, teachers, and students showed while the
intruder was escorted out of the area.  

 

This incident provides a good opportunity for all of us to educate our
kids about the potential dangers posed by moose.  We have had several
reports that there are two or three of these young moose in the
immediate area right now, and it is important give them their space.  

 

This year has provided lots of stories to remember and we now we have
one more story to tell about the moose that came to school at MJHS!
