Dear Parents,
Welcome to a snowy white, winter holiday season! Our students are
telling us that they are ready for a holiday break, but we are finishing
up important classroom projects and there are some important papers and
tests due before we let them go tomorrow afternoon.
We hope you are keeping track of your child's progress on PowerSchool.
If you have not been able to access this very important online tool,
please contact the MJHS office and we will make sure that you are able
to access your child's progress.
It has been a busy time these past few weeks. Our Master Schedule
committee made a recommendation to the Superintendent of Schools to
change our daily bell schedule for the 2009-10 school year. The
recommendation was approved at the December 16, 2008 Board of Trustees
meeting and we are excited to begin planning for this exciting change.
It is the first time in at least thirty-eight years that our schedule
has changed. The new format will provide students with the same amount
of classes, but the time has been organized so they will be able to more
deeply explore each subject area. Our school day will start at 8:20
a.m, and will end at 3:06, which is six minutes later than our current
release time. We will be providing more information as the details
unfold.
We sometimes come back after the break to find that some students made
poor choices during unsupervised time when school is not in session.
Earlier this year I sent out "Parenting Tips from the Principal". Part
of this list is attached below.
* Know where your son/daughter is at all times.
* Know the first and last name of the friends that your
son/daughter is with.
* If your son/daughter is visiting another home, talk to the
parent about their house rules and curfews before your child visits, and
make sure that the parent is going to be home while your child is there.
* Don't let your son/daughter visit homes that just "don't feel
right."
* Entertain your son/daughter's friends at your home after
communicating with the friends' parents.
More and more students receive cell phones as gifts. We certainly view
cell phones as an important communication tool for families, even though
they are not allowed in school during the school day. We recommend
"basic" cell phones for junior high school age students. Phones with
cameras and other peripheral features just aren't needed. From time to
time, cell phones are also stolen, and it is much easier to replace a
basic phone than one with lots of bells and whistles. I hope this
paragraph saved you a little money on your next cell phone purchase.
We have received notice that the Spring Drivers Education is now full.
The next class will start in early June. If you are interested in this
course for your son or daughter, please contact Carla Helbling at Moscow
High School.
Our food service requested a meal price increase because of rising
costs. The prices will become effective January 20, 2009 (second
semester), and were approved by the Board of Trustees at their December
16, 2008 meeting. The following chart shows the prices:

We are having a very good school year. Our students get along, most of
them are working to do their best in their classes, and our teachers are
the most fantastic people I've ever known. Yesterday our staff enjoyed
a full day of wonderful treats organized by Aleisa Barber and prepared
by our Parent Support Team. We would like to thank everyone who brought
food. It was fantastic. I would also like to thank Susan Mahoney and
all of the other parents who helped with the school t-shirt orders.
They were distributed today and they look great!
I wish all of you a very happy holiday season.
Sincerely,
Dale Kleinert, Principal
Moscow Junior High School
