Dear Parents,

We are off and running on our first full week of school. It is a big
week with lots going on. The Latah County Fair is a big deal for most
junior high students, and fair conversations make for lots of
excitement. We will start our fall round of ISAT testing next week.
Additional information about testing is included in this letter, but
first we would like to introduce everyone to the MJHS Listserve.

The MJHS Listserve now has 502 subscribers! WOW! The Listserve is a
very powerful communication tool, and we are careful to only use it for
important MJHS activities announcements, information, and requests for
assistance. I would like to thank Susan Mahoney for serving as the
webmaster who keeps our email addresses updated. We would also like to
thank First Step Internet for their support.

It is VERY important to remember that if you reply to an email from the
Listserve, it goes out to all 502 subscribers. If you want to send a
reply to Susan Mahoney or to me, please use the following email
addresses:

Dale Kleinert - - dkleiner at sd281.k12.id.us
<mailto:dkleiner at sd281.k12.id.us>

Susan Mahoney - - srmahoney at yahoo.com <mailto:srmahoney at yahoo.com>

The fall round of the Idaho Standards and Achievement Tests (ISAT) will
begin this next week. Our student testing is scheduled as follows:

9th Grade - - Sept. 17, 18, 19 (Reading, Language, Math)

8th Grade - - Sept. 20, 21, 24 (Reading, Language, Math)

7th Grade - - Sept. 25, 26, 27, 28 (Reading, Language, Math, &
Science)

We always encourage students to attend school, especially during their
testing days. Every school day is important, but if students miss on
their original test date, they will have to miss their regularly
scheduled class to take a make-up. We've made every effort for students
to have enough time to do their best. Lots of sleep and a hearty
breakfast before coming to school is also a great way to do well. We
really appreciate your support during our testing seasons.

The "Parent Portal" goes live tomorrow (Tuesday) at 3:45 p.m. We hope
you will be able to access this important web based communication tool
and use it as a positive reinforcer for your son or daughter.
Instructions and passwords were distributed at "Back-To-School Night"
and at the "New Student Orientation". If you did not attend either
function, we've mailed passwords to you. If you don't get the
information by the end of the week, please give the office a call at
882-3577. We will not give passwords out over the phone, but we will
mail you another set. You can also stop by anytime. Please keep your
passwords secure. If you, or know of someone who has no access the
Internet, please contact one of the counselors at MJHS and they will
make sure you receive timely information.

If you see a grade that you weren't expecting on the Parent Portal,
please consult with your son or daughter about assignments and grades
that you question before contacting the teachers. If the grade seems to
be wrong, please have your child consult with the teacher to
double-check. We believe the system to be stable, but sometimes it
tricks us and sends some weird data. Teachers will make every attempt
to update information on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
Grades are works in progress until they are recorded by the district at
the end of each term.

We hope your son or daughter is off to a great start at MJHS. Our staff
works very hard to make sure every student is successful every day. If
you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give any of us a
call, but don't reply to this email unless you want everyone to read
your question!! J

Have a great week,

Dale Kleinert, Principal

Moscow Junior High School
