Dear Parents, 

 

We are up and running!  Thank you for your patience and support during
the first few days of the 2007-08 school year.  Some students have
endured schedule changes in an effort to place them in smaller classes
to ensure success throughout their day.  Other students are happily
rolling through the hallways like they never left last spring.  Our new
seventh graders are already used to the routine of getting themselves
through the hallways.  It was a great opening and we are proud of our
staff for all of the work they've done in an effort to help students
adjust.

 

Our annual "Back To School Night" is set for this Thursday, September, 6
at 7:00 p.m.  Parents will meet in the Fieldhouse for a brief
orientation.  Following the orientation, they will follow their child's
schedule in ten minute increments to learn about curriculum and meet the
teachers.   Students will be bringing home a timeline with more
information tomorrow (Wednesday) after school.  Please ask if they don't
automatically hand it to you. J

 

School photo day is this Friday, September, 7.  Students will have their
photos taken during classes throughout the day.  Picture packets will be
coming home tomorrow.  The packets should be returned Friday morning
with a check to cover the cost if you would like to purchase any of the
packages offered by our photo vendor.  All students will have photos
taken even if they do not purchase a packet.

 

Last year we opened up the new "Parent Portal".  This Internet feature
allows parents to keep tabs on academic progress, attendance, lunch
balance, and other school information.

The information is available 24/7 via the World Wide Web, and has been
an outstanding addition to our parent communication package.  You will
receive your confidential parent password and instruction kits during
"Back To School Night" in your English class.

 

Even though you have anytime access to the "Parent Portal", teachers
will update on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.  We plan to
open the portal after school on Tuesday, September 11th , after teachers
have an opportunity to enter some grades and learn how to operate the
system.  We have 13 new staff members at MJHS this year and we are
pedaling as fast as we can to get them up to speed on this new software.
We appreciate your patience as we make this system as stable as
possible.

 

As always, MJHS is a very busy place.  I will attempt to get a letter
out to parents every other week.  Sometimes it might be a little early,
and sometimes it might be a little late, based on the number of
activities and timely information to help you plan ahead.  I believe
that parent communication is one of our strongest foundations to assist
students in their success, and I am dedicated to helping families and
students as they progress through this stage of their education.
