Dear Parents,=20
=20
Happy New Year! We started 2006 with a Parent Support Team meeting on
the first day back to school at 7:15 a.m.. Susan Mahoney, our parent
team representative has done a fantastic job of organization, and we hit
the ground running with the first meeting of the New Year. The team is
planning a very important, informative, educational session for all MJHS
parents and students this coming February 1, from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m.
The session is planned to help parents and students understand how
predators use the internet to establish contact with children.
Representatives from the Moscow Police Department, and our Safe and Drug
Free Schools Coordinator, Charlie Gerke will lead the family oriented
event. MJHS students who attend will participate in a hands on,
age-appropriate computer program designed to help them learn how to
protect themselves, while parents and other interested adults will
receive additional information about this very important issue. We will
then break for pizza (donations accepted) and follow up with additional
discussion with parents and students together. The Parent Team will be
providing additional information as we get closer to February 1.
Our school email system is as vulnerable to spam and other unwanted
information as most other networked computers. We have recently added a
filter system in an effort to cut down on spam/junk email, and at this
time we are fine tuning the filter. We are aware of some instances of
legitimate email being blocked from getting through to teachers. If you
have sent an email and it has bounced back to you, or you have not
received a response, please call the teacher on the telephone to ensure
a contact. When you do contact us, please give us your email address so
we can upgrade our system appropriately. Thank you for your patience
until we get our filter working properly. =20
Our first semester is rapidly drawing to a close. We have a specified
finals schedule that is printed at the end of this email. We will not
be on a different bell schedule, but we have developed the timelines to
provide a testing schedule that gives flexibility for student study
time. Some classes may not have a "final", but the schedule is
developed to help students plan during this busy week. Most students
are working hard to ensure academic success, and you can help by
providing an uninterrupted place, and time for study.
The last day of the first semester is Thursday, January 26th. On that
day at lunch, all students will receive their 2nd semester schedules.
If a student is not in school at lunchtime, they can pick up their
schedules after school on the 26th, or before school on Monday, January
30th, which is the first day of the new semester. Friday, January 27th,
is scheduled as a teacher workday to prepare for the new semester, and
there is no school for students.
We plan to mail first semester report cards on or before Thursday,
February 2nd. Along with report cards, you will receive the winter
edition of the "Cub Communicator". It will provide important
information and dates that you will find helpful. If you don't receive
a report card by Monday, February 6th, please contact the school.=20
Our registrar, Cindy Lish has worked diligently to make sure almost all
students have the same teachers in their required classes both
semesters. In a very few cases, teachers have been altered so maximum
elective requests could be met. The master schedule is a very
complicated document, and many thanks go to Cindy and our counselors for
their hard work.
As always, I'm continually impressed by the students at MJHS. They are
a bunch of great kids, and it is obvious that they are receiving
positive support from their parents. Thank you for all you do to help
your child be successful. Until next time, please contact us if you
have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
=20
Dale Kleinert, Principal
Moscow Junior High School
