Dear Parents,=20
=20
MJHS is off to a great start. Our opening days were productive,
positive, and exciting. Each year it is a thrill to watch our students
enter the hallways for the first time. I'm sure that the energy could
heat Moscow for the winter, if only we could harness it.
We hope that you had the opportunity to attend "Back To School Night"
this last Thursday. We saw a lot of you, and hope that you enjoyed the
evening. Please let us know if there are ways that we can make the
evening more productive for you.
We are in the final stages of scheduling the fall "Idaho Standards and
Achievement Tests". We will begin the testing session on September 19.
Students will take a Reading, Language, and Mathematics test, during
their Social Studies, Language Arts, and Math classes that are spread
out over a five week period. Seventh grade students will also take the
Science portion of the tests during their Science classes. All tests
will be taken electronically on computers. We will have opportunities
for students who are absent to take make-up tests, but it is very
important to attend school as much as possible during the testing
sessions. Teachers will be giving test-taking tips before each test,
and parents can help by making sure that your child gets enough rest
before test days. The test window closes on October 21st. =20
Progress report dates are coming up. All 7th and 8th grade students
will receive progress reports during the week of September 27th. 9th
grade students who are achieving less than a "C" grade will have
progress reports sent out during the same timeframe. Feel free to
contact your child's teachers at the school for additional information.
If you need to have additional contact with your child's teachers, a
request for a weekly progress report can be made through the counselor.
When the request is made, the counselor develops a blank set of progress
reports (usually nine weeks worth) to be sent to the parent. The parent
then gives a blank progress report to the child each Tuesday morning
before leaving for school. The child then brings the report to each of
his or her teachers who may attach a printed report or write on the
blank progress report. The child then returns the completed report to
the parent at the end of the day. =20
For those of you that are looking for home study tips, there are several
websites available for parents and families. I placed two on the last
letter, and here two more. www.bhg.com <http://www.bhg.com/> and
www.ncela.gwu.edu <http://www.ncela.gwu.edu/> =20
I hope you've found the information included in this letter to be
useful. Please feel free to contact me at any time for additional
information. I've included some upcoming school calendar information
that will be useful for you.

Sincerely,=20
