Moscow Junior High Support Team Minutes - September 6,
2005

Susan Mahoney, our MJH Support team representative for
2005-2006, introduced and led our first support team
meeting of the school year. The following were in
attendance: Sandy Gibson, Lisa Morris, Julie Holt,
S.J. Jung, Henrianne Westberg, Mary Jo Van Gerpen,
Carolyn Birmingham, Hillary Dilworth, Marie Charles,
Laurie Riley, Lisa Nelson, Deanne Clifton, Nancy Akin,
Principal Dale Kleinert, and after morning duty,
Assistant-principal Kevin Hill.

Immediate Volunteer Opportunities

Susan told of the different areas where volunteers are
needed. The first was for someone to take minutes at
our monthly meetings. (By the end of the meeting we
had volunteers for this.)

Our first parent meeting will be in October and it
will be a Meet the Staff --Ice Cream Social. We need
someone to work with Assistant-Principal Kevin Hill to
coordinate this meeting. The meeting will start at
6:30.

Also needed is a staff appreciation coordinator to
line up parents to do acts of kindness for the
teachers and staff, such as providing treats or
salads.

Principal's Report

The school is using the internet more to get
information to parents. Mr. Kleinert began sending a
bi-weekly newsletter in August that includes parent
updates to keep them in the loop about school
activities. A variety of information can be found on
the school's website including sports activities.
Teachers are also being encouraged to put their
information on the website. Mr. Kleinert plans to have
separate e-mail listings for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade
parents. It will take a few weeks to get these
listings compiled. Mr. Kleinert emphasized that it is
the school's goal to make each student's school
experience a successful one and will work with the
parents toward that end.

This Week's Activities

*There will be an assembly at school for the students
to find out about the different clubs and activities
that they can participate. Thursday, September 8, is
Parent Back-to-School Night starting at 7:00. Ice
cream cups will be served.

*Friday, September 9, is School Picture Day.

Junior High Representative for Facilities Committee

Desiree Jacobson volunteered to be the epresentative.
The committee will be looking at immediate short-term
needs for schools.

Financial Report

The financial report will be available at the next
meeting.

Assistant Principal Report

New Assistant Principal Kevin Hill gave an
introduction of himself, telling of having worked in
both California and Montana before coming here. He is
a Montana native. He has enjoyed being in Moscow so
far and looks forward to working with students and
staff at Moscow Junior High.

Future of Family Nights

Last year the programs provided were informative but
the turnout of families was disappointing so this year
we may regroup and rethink them. We may perhaps have
them more student-planned.

THE MISSION OF THE MJHS PARENT SUPPORT TEAM IS TO
PROMOTE AND ENHANCE THE WELL BEING AND EDUCATIONAL
EXPERIENCE OF OUR CHILDREN BY COORDINATING AND
PROMOTING PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT AND PROVIDING SUPPORT
FOR TEACHERS, STAFF, AND VOLUNTEERS.
