Here are the minutes from last Tuesday's meeting. Hope to see you all at
next month's meeting on Tuesday Dec. 6th at 7:15AM in room 201 of the
Jr. High.

*MJHS PST Minutes from **November 1, 2005***

<>Susan Mahoney, our MJHS parent support team representative for
2005-2006, led our third meeting of the school year. Hillary Dilworth
recorded the minutes. Welcome and introductions were made, and the
meeting agenda, and November school calendar was handed out to those in
attendance. The following were in attendance:

Marie Charles, Sandy Gibson, Hillary Dilworth, Rhonda Jafolla, Patsy
Gregory, Erin McCall, Mary Jo Van Gerpen, Lori Meier, Nancy Akin, Susan
Mahoney, Becky Ellison, Helen Brown Fowler, Sherri Nelson, Carolyn
Birmingham, Christa Davis, Anne Peterson, Desiree Jacobsen, Glenn
Segota-MJHS teacher, Dale Kleinert-Principal, Kevin Hill-Assistant Principal

*Staff Appreciation Report*

Sandy Gibson thanked those in attendance who were able to help and all
of the parents who supplied donations for the October 19^th continental
staff breakfast, making it very nice for the Staff of MJHS. Dale
Kleinert expressed his thanks to everyone for making that a great day
for all. He shared that on Friday October 14^th , an "emergency staff
meeting" was really an ice cream social for the staff, and that the
leftovers from the "Family Night" were put to good use. The staff is
feeling very spoiled right now.

On November 16th, there will be another continental breakfast served to
the staff, and volunteers and donations are being accepted at this time.

*Facilities Task Force Report*

Desiree Jacobson, our parent representative on the Facilities Task Force
(FTF), gave an update on the group and discussed what a Bond Levy vs.
Facilities Levy really means. The task force meets twice a month, and is
using facilities information from the District Facilities Supervisor
Bill Anderson, and considering the long term District facilities plan to
help them make their overall recommendations. The majority of the task
force believes that the best laid plan for the community is to address
each project piece by piece, so as not to overwhelm the community with
one large project to fix everything at once. The schools currently in
most need are J. Russell Elementary and West Park Elementary.
Discussions include remodeling both schools, remodeling one school and
replacing the other with a new school, or replacing both schools with
one larger new school. Feasibility and cost estimates will be obtained
for all options. Desiree mentioned that she has the recommendations that
Mr. Kleinert made during her facilities tour of the Jr. High on October
7th. Minutes from the October 10th and 24th FTF meeting were passed out
to those in attendance, and the next meeting will be on November 14th,
2005.

*Principal's Report*

Dale Kleinert discussed how fast the school year is going, that we were
nearing the end of the first quarter and how well it is all working
together. Some highlights:

    * The school generously raised over $2,000.00 in a week for Katrina
      Relief Efforts.
    * The High School Reform Initiative is effecting everyone and 22
other states are joining the reform effort. On October 18th, the
meeting in Lewiston was attended, and of the 48 people who spoke,
only 1 spoke in favor of the initiative.
    * Student led conferences are this week, on Nov. 3rd and 4th. Call
the office if you need to schedule an appointment.
    * No school on Nov 3 & 4th for 7/8 graders, but for the 9th graders
school is in due to graduation requirements. A special 9th grade
photo will be done during that day for the 9th graders.
    * No school on Nov 4th for 9th graders.
    * In the next week, report cards, with Cub Communicator, and ISAT
      test results will be mailed.

*Assistant Principal's Report*

    * *Premier Calendars*: Kevin Hill passed out a brochure from
Premier, the company that made the Student Agendas. They are
offering an on line opportunity for parents to create their own
customized calendar, and will donate $5.00 for every calendar
bought from them to the school as a fund raiser. The monies raised
are not currently "ear marked", but could be used to update the
technology for the school. The staff will discuss current needs,
and make a recommendation for a specific item.
    * *The Veterans Day Program* is on Nov 11th @ 12:55pm. Tom Anderson
will be a speaker, the School Choir will perform, a video
featuring Jennifer Love-Hewitt will be presented, a letter from
the current commander in Iraq will be read, and the school band
will perform 3 different numbers. This will also be the kick off
for the school canned food drive.
    * *Fall School Dance* will also be on the 11th, it will be held
7-10pm and the cost is $3.00 per student. Currently there are 9
volunteer chaperones, and a total of 15 are needed.

*Student Directory*

The idea of a school directory is being discussed currently, with an
either opt in or an opt out form for families to fill out. It was
mentioned that a directory would be helpful to new students/families in
the community. A possible small fee could be charged and maybe even just
have the parents pick them up directly. Susan will discuss this further
with Dale Kleinert and superintendent Candis Donicht.

*PST name change*

Some suggestions were made regarding the name change. Dale Kleinert's
suggestion is to allow it to remain and to seek out the
rules/regulations in the By-Laws for the PST Group. It was suggested to
those informing others of the PST, to refer to it as a PTA equivalent.
It was also noted that the Moscow High School has the same name for
their Parent Group and the transition would be easier or more familiar.

*Family Nights*

Susan reported that the first family night of the year went well with
about 50 people in attendance. Once possible future topic is an
interactive Internet safety program that Charlie Gerke has access to.
Parents and students would work on it together. Other ideas will be
discussed at the December meeting. This year we would like to focus on
topics or activities that can be cone together as a family. Bring your
own ideas!

<>The next PST meeting will be held December 6th at 7:15am in room 201.
