[Liability Insurance] Florida Bar RPPTL Insurance & Surety Committee Conference Call - Monday, July 20, 2020, beginning at Noon (Eastern)

Folks,

I hope everyone remains well and healthy and is enjoying what they can of the summer.  This is a friendly reminder that our next meeting for the Insurance & Surety Committee is tomorrow, Monday, July 20, 2020 - beginning at 12 Noon (Eastern).  And back by popular demand, okay, really just Bob in accounting, we are going to continue to try using Zoom for this month's meeting - as it seemed to work fairly smoothly last month (*knocks on wood*).

We have a great presentation lined up for everyone on Monday that I think will be of great interest and continued importance, as COVID will likely be touching everyone's practice in the near future if it hasn't already done so.  The presentation is "Mitigating COVID-19 Construction Risks - Common Law Excuse of Performance Doctrines, Claims Considerations, and Builder's Risk Insurance." And we have two great speakers presenting that topic to us this month: Bret Henson and Brian Solomon.

Brett Henson is an attorney with the Sarasota office of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, where he practices in the areas of construction and commercial litigation.  He is Board Certified in Construction Law, and serves as Co-Chair of the Litigation Subcommittee of the Construction Law Committee of the RPPTL Section.  As a former prosecutor and civil trial lawyer, he has tried over 35 jury trials to verdict, including two multi-party construction defect cases.  He also has experience representing owners, contractors, and subcontractors in navigating first and third-party insurance coverage issues.

Brian Solomon is an attorney with Kirwin Norris, P.A. and works in the firm's Melbourne office. He became Board Certified in Construction Law in the inaugural class in 2005. He represents developers, prime contractors and subcontractors in all aspects of the construction industry. He also has successfully represented a number of construction companies through Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Plan approval.

Attached for Monday's call are the following: (1) the agenda for today's meeting; (2) meeting minutes from our June 15, 2020 meeting; and (3) a PDF of Brett and Brian's PowerPoint for the CLE Presentation.  We will also be attempting to share the PowerPoint over Zoom as well.
