Harry, the lease witnesses bill is being proposed by NAIOP. Attached is the current draft of the bill that was received back from the billing drafting arm of the legislature.

Does anyone know of the status of any bill removing the witness requirement the Statute of Frauds from the law following many other states?
I think I can get the Florida Apartment Association to get on board with this as well as Florida NARPM (National Association of Residential Property Managers)
The witness requirement is really causing a problem with these leases that are over 1 year, sometimes only by a week or a few days due to the electronic signatures.
If this is something that you all feel with benefit your clients, I believe the Florida Apartment Association will get the ball rolling, we can begin to write up the bill language and, Ron Book, the powerful lobbyist for them will take it from there to get bill sponsors.
If this is something for 2020, please feel free to contact me.
I think if FAR, FAA, NARPM and the Florida Bar is on board, this may be smooth sailing but the time is now to get working on it for 2020.
It is only going to get worse due to the electronic signature growth.
