Hello, Selkirk Members!

Just a reminder that we have a fun and informative field trip planned for
this Saturday, May 20th.

To get us fueled up for the day, those interested can meet for an informal
(no-host) breakfast at the Chimney Rock Cafe (mile marker 27.9 on the West
side)on Highway 57, north of Priest River between 8:30 and 9:00AM. They
would like to be able to set us up with our own room, so an accurate count
is desired. Breakfast prices range from $4.00 to $10.00.

Then, at 10:00AM, we will meet at the USFS Priest Lake Ranger District
(just past mile marker 32 on the East side of Highway 57). The Priest Lake
Ranger District is hosting a discussion and field trip regarding FS fuel
reduction projects in the wildland urban interface. Brad Gilbert, Idaho
Panhandle National Forest (IPNF) will discuss the Healthy Forests
Restoration Act (HFRA), how HFRA has affected fuel reduction projects, and
the IPNF Fuels Strategy. Priest Lake Ranger District folks will discuss how
fuel reduction projects are identified and the public collaboration
process. Then, they'll take us out to look at some fuel reduction projects
in different stages of implementation or planning. They're also looking for
some of our feedback. We should be back to the Ranger Station by about
12:30 or 1:00PM. (It might be a good idea to bring a sack lunch- or buy one
locally- as we might find a good spot out in the woods to eat lunch! Let me
know if you'd like to buy lunch, and I'll send you some good options.)

After we get back to the Ranger Station, our own Bill Love, "Geo-Cacher
Enthusiast", has offered to give us an informative talk and demonstration
on the topic. For those interested, we can carpool and hike to some nearby
geocaches. Bring your GPS, so Bill can give us the full demo! That should
round-out a full day. Thanks, Bill!

We don't have many signed up yet. Here's a list of those already signed up
to attend this special day! If you're not on the list and would like to be,
please email me by Friday, May 19th.

Phil Tuma, plus 2 guests
Bob Bosworth
Eric Trimble
Bill Love
Lynn Kaney

Remember, this is a topic that many members requested and we don't get this
opportunity very often, so join us if you can! We should have a great time!
If you need further directions or are looking for someone to carpool with,
let me know. Thanks!
