Dear Palouse-Snake River SAF Chapter members,

My name is Mark Kimsey and I will be filling the position of Chair-Elect
for the Palouse-Snake River chapter through the end of this year. Come
January 2007, I will take on the position of Chair currently being held
by Tera King. Tera deserves all our thanks for holding this post
without a Chair-Elect for 1 1/2 years.

A little background history for those I have not had an opportunity to meet:

Education:
- Ph.D. Natural Resources (June 2006)
- M.S. Soil Science (May 2003)
- B.S. Forest Resources - Production (May 1999)

Employment:
- Post-Doctoral Fellow, IFTNC (current)
- Research Assistant, Intermountain Forest Tree Nutrition Cooperative
(1999-2006)
- UI Logging Crew Member (1998)
- Farm Hand (1992-1998)

I look forward to meeting all of you in the coming year and I ask for
your input into our local SAF chapter. Do you have any suggestions,
comments on chapter meetings and/or activities? Please pass any ideas
you have to either myself or Tera. As I get a chance to meet and talk
with you, I will formulate a set of goals that we deem important to
creating a strong and successful chapter.

Listed below are the details regarding the upcoming meeting on September
5th. I look forward to seeing you there.

Palouse-Snake River Chapter September 2006 Meeting

Title: The History of Forests and Forestry in Latah County

Presented By: George Hatley

Mr. Hatley gave this presentation at the SAF Tri-Society meeting last
year and we got so many great comments on it that we have asked Mr.
Hatley to give his presentation again at our local chapter meeting! Mr.
Hatley’s family has lived in Latah County longer than most of us
(possibly all of us) and he has many great pictures and stories to
commemorate the history of the forests and the forest industry in this area.

This meeting will also be a meet-and-greet event to welcome back
returning UI & WSU SAF students.
