CLCers,

I hope many of you reading this will be in an airport heading somewhere or in your back yard relaxing ahead of the holiday. But either way, I wanted to write a brief note to all of you.

Recently, a message was circulated to the CLC discussion list regarding a firm with an attorney opening. I want to be very clear – I approved the posting before it was posted. But in light of some of the responses, I thought this would be a good time to remind everyone why we have two (2) listservs for the CLC.

The base listserv is the one to which I sent this message, which is reserved for official CLC business. If you attempt to email this list, the server sends me a message asking for my approval. I almost never approve those requests because this list is reserved for official business only, as we respect that many of you prefer not to be copied on anything except official committee emails.

Instead, I refer folks to the second list – clc-discussion at lists.flabarrpptl.org<mailto:clc-discussion at lists.flabarrpptl.org> – to which any member of the committee may send messages. This list was set up several years ago (before I became chair) to provide a place for members to discuss pretty much anything on their minds – request forms, advice on a unique situation or legal problem, or referrals for experts. This list is optional for members. Any member may ask to be unsubscribed from the discussion listserv and you will still receive all official committee emails and announcements.

For me, the discussion list is for discussion and, barring someone being abusive (which has never happened, to my knowledge), all comments and requests are welcome on that list. If someone finds a particular question to the list to be somehow inappropriate, it is an open forum – feel free to make your opinion known! But I do not feel it is my role to serve as moderator of that forum, again, barring abusive language or the like.

I always review and appreciate feedback, though. So feel free to kick off a discussion on the “discussion” listserv – or email me directly – if you have any thoughts on this subject or any other, for that matter.

I hope everyone has a safe and healthy 4th of July holiday!

Reese
