For those CLCers who already follow me on Insta or TikTok, you are familiar with my monthly installment entitled Arnie's Book (Review) Club.  Unlike Oprah, I don't insist that my followers / club members read an entire book - only a review of a book.

This month's "Arnie's pick" is the book review by Josh Tyrangiel of the New York Times (or Josh Triangle as we in the review biz refer to him). See attached.

It is this reader's opinion that Ol' Isosceles' review of "SAM - One Robot, a Dozen Engineers and the Race to Revolutionize the Way We Build" by Jonathan Waldman misses ample opportunities to chastise Mr. Waldman for failing to address many, serious construction law questions posed by AI being utilized on the job site. (Fred: AI stands for artificial intelligence - think of the character Robot (B-9) on the Lost in Space tv series or Rosie the Robot Maid from the Jetsons).

For example, what if a Dyson Upright or Roomba is minding its own business while moving past a work site and SAM whistles or makes a cat call?  #stopstaringatmymotherboard

Collective bargaining and OSHA compliance with AI is frustrating at best (recall trying to rationalize with HAL in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey).

Lastly, how would F.S. 713 categorize SAM?  A laborer?  Equipment?  Undocumented worker?

In conclusion, AI has moved past BIM and will soon be actively on the jobsite, in some capacity. Possibly a robotic roach coach (or craft services as we in the review biz call it).
