& W long term marriage with 5 grown children. One of the
children loaned the parents $$$$$$ so they could pay off their
existing home mortgage and the H could finally retire and stop
working (age 80+). An attorney in Seattle prepared a properly
drawn Note & DOT documenting the transaction. The adult
child (here in Yakima) took the executed DOT to the auditor’s
office to record it as instructed by her attorney. The clerk
she encountered looked at the document and told her, “You
can’t do that to your parents. This is wrong. You can’t do it.
It’s not allowed.” The clerk rejected the document and sent
the adult child packing. There was nothing amiss with the
formatting or execution of the document, and it was a typical
form DOT.

would be helpful. I don’t mean the real estate excise tax

lawyers to comply with the document recording standards. I
suggest looking at these and modifying your forms so the
proper information is on the first page, then you can avoid
the cover page that causes its own problems.
