        <p class="MsoNormal">Here’s a great one for the commission –
          file it under, “You’ve got to be kidding with a healthy side
          of bureaucratic BS”:<o:p></o:p></p>
        <p class="MsoNormal">I met with new EP clients last week. H
          & W long term marriage with 5 grown children. One of the
          children loaned the parents $$$$$$ so they could pay off their
          existing home mortgage and the H could finally retire and stop
          working (age 80+). An attorney in Seattle prepared a properly
          drawn Note & DOT documenting the transaction. The adult
          child (here in Yakima) took the executed DOT to the auditor’s
          office to record it as instructed by her attorney. The clerk
          she encountered looked at the document and told her, “You
          can’t do that to your parents. This is wrong. You can’t do it.
          It’s not allowed.” The clerk rejected the document and sent
          the adult child packing.  There was nothing amiss with the
          formatting or execution of the document, and it was a typical
          form DOT. <o:p></o:p></p>

        <p class="MsoNormal">The adult child’s attorney in Seattle was
          dumbfounded and is now sending the document himself to be
          recorded.

            property lawyers are tiring of the document rejections for a
            wide variety of opinions from whoever is at the desk at the
            time. The Auditors are actually interested to compile these
            examples.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

            style="font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
        <p class="MsoNormal"><span
            style="font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">There is
            now a “Document Rejections Commission” with Auditors and
            some title company representatives. Vicky Dalton (Spokane
            Auditor) has been a long-time friend of the real property
            lawyers and title companies, actively assisting for
            legislative fixes. I think the real property section should
            be working with her to propose legislative solutions.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
        <p class="MsoNormal"><span
            style="font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
        <p class="MsoNormal"><span
            style="font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">Examples
            would be helpful. I don’t mean the real estate excise tax
            rejections; I mean the Auditors’ document rejections and
            required corrections to comply with their opinions of the
            moment. Many are due to the frustrating failure of us
            lawyers to comply with the document recording standards. I
            suggest looking at these and modifying your forms so the
            proper information is on the first page, then you can avoid
            the cover page that causes its own problems.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
