I’ve gotten a few clients out of timeshares by asking the Board for their redemption policy. Usually they want you to prepay next year’s dues, bring the account current if any past due assessments, and then deed it back or sign it back to the Board.

If it was a larger timeshare (e.g. WorldMark, Marriott, Hilton, etc.), I would recommend hiring a broker to sell it for Fair Market Value. But a small timeshare like Peterson’s probably has little marketability. Perhaps they could find another owner at Peterson’s that wants to add a week and buy it off them.

Side note, I had a nice stay at Petersons, we did a timeshare swap a few years back, enjoyed the fireplace and BBQ grill on the balcony, easy walk to town… but alas, we already have more timeshare days than we usually use.
