Down here in Pierce Co., the HJP attorney will automatically get a continuance the first time… ostensibly in order to confer with the client. But it usually only for 2 weeks and the commissioner gives the tenant a stern warning: you must make time to meet with your pro bono attorney because next time, I won’t grant the continuance.

Speaking of HJP assigning cases, at my last show cause hearing the HJP attorney said she wanted a continuance because she was assigned the case by HJP but had not talked to the tenant yet.  Isn’t that against RCP 1.2(f) and possibly RPC 7.3?
