[WSBARP] Paid HOA Board?

Greetings Condo Gurus:

Is there a prohibition anywhere in the statutes that would prohibit the board members of a HOA from being paid, or is it just a matter of whatever is written into their bylaws?

I'm not looking for a discussion on the wisdom/consequences of a HOA board paying themselves, just merely asking for a client who wants a cite if there is such a prohibition.
