[WSBARP] Haus--Co-Investing

I am guessing you got an inquiry email from someone with a generic gmail or other free address, that said "I am looking for a real estate attorney to advise me on negotiating a contract buyout with a co-investing company called Haus. I am not interested in going into litigation. This is a time sensitive matter. Please let me know if you are able to help. Best, [name] [phone number]."

I got one too, this afternoon. I circulated it to the lawyers in my firm, and said:

FYI, I'm not going to respond to this. I'm 80% sure it's phishing, and if it's not, I don't want a client who approaches me this way anyway.
Generic email, short "hook" type email content typical of phishing, unverifiable phone number, address or location info, no indication it's a referral from another attorney...

I think that the specific reference to "Haus" is to lend a thin veneer of authenticity by adding a random specific term that can be pulled off the internet.

Our office is getting a ton of seriously tricky phishing emails these days, posing as title companies, escrows, docusign requests, even trying to impersonate other lawyers in the firm.
