And correct me if I'm wrong, but as is typical, expert opinions can 
vary.  Depending on conditions it's not cut and dried, although I doubt 
most variations would involve differences of four feet.

Years ago I had a survey conducted in preparation for installing a fence 
and the surveyor explained that the section (and township?) I was in was 
smaller than the specified size so they had to use rules of 
interpretation to determine the line and that different rules could lead 
to different results.  He picked the one(s) that fit with the facts on 
the ground, assuming that was what the surveyor of the original plat had 
done decades earlier.
