The cynical lawyer in me saying this is nothing more than window dressing
by legislators who have already made their minds up and will do what they
want and can legitimately claim that they have reached out to all
‘shareholders.’
Lots of virtue signaling.
Golden rule of lawmaking.

Dear Colleagues,
Thanks to all who participated in Wednesday’s forum. Christopher Cutting
and Kaitlyn Jackson deserve a special shout out, as they took time away
from another commitment to lead the discussion. Thank you both!
I am especially grateful for the many personal messages I received, and I
will reply to each of you in the days ahead.
Your collective response has been startling, and overwhelmingly consistent
in expressing a desire to constructively shape the legislation under review.
Here are some key themes that emerged Wednesday, particularly in reference
to the existing pilot eviction mediation project:
- Concerns around issues of equity, inclusion, and diversity in the
planning and execution of the pilot program
- A perceived failure to include all relevant stakeholders in the
conversation about addressing the eviction crisis
- A shared desire to collaborate among all stakeholders to influence
legislation under development
For those who could not join us, the link above should connect you to the
recording of Wednesday’s session.
Eviction Legislation Forum II takes place at noon PST on Thursday 24, 2021.
