[WSBARP] Property taxes

They are either joint tenants with right of survivorship or tenants in common. In either case, the paying co-owner generally has a right to contribution for outlays upon the common burden or liability of both to pay taxes, encumbrances, etc., but there’s always room for lots of devils in the details.

Walters v. Walters 1 Wn.App 849 is a good jumping off point.

Subject: [WSBARP] Property taxes

Hi all,

When two people (unmarried and not romantic partners) are both on title to a property, does one party have a claim against the other re: property taxes? If only one party pays the taxes (so that they aren't delinquent) and the other owner refuses, can the payor seek reimbursement?

We've found some conflicting information, so I wanted to see if anyone is aware of how to handle this.

Thanks!
