Dear RPPT Listmates,

The Covid-19 crisis is quickly generating a variety of housing conflict situations that cannot be handled in the traditional way given existing conditions. Since last Friday there has been a surge in disputes related to ill-conceived space-sharing agreements, particularly among vulnerable homeowners renting rooms in their homes. Roommate deals are probably the biggest cause of leasing disputes, and they are exploding in the specter of the virus.

These situations and the more prosaic problems like Paul outlined below can be managed online. Even before Covid-19, the best place to start with such problems is with some kind of mediated intervention, easily facilitated with online tools.

Yesterday I participated (online) in a regional meeting of attorney mediators from Vancouver to Los Angeles. We are pooling resources and experience to provide help that for the time being will only be achievable remotely. The tools are actually in place to meet the problem; the challenge is mostly making the legal community and consumers know they exist.

I have copied the leadership of the ADR Section and Regina Paulose who has been leading cross-section pollination efforts. There is an opportunity in this crisis for all of us to expand our horizons and collaborate in new ways while serving the community.

The ADR Section includes many practitioners who are experienced in real estate issues and adept at online work. Please let us know if you need assistance.

Initially, trying to figure out if the moratorium is on ALL evictions or only evictions that are based on lack of rent payment. I have a client that would love to stay in his unit another month (and he'll pay the rent) but he was served with a proper termination of a month-to-month lease. So, how do I get a copy of the actual language in the state-wide moratorium?
