That is the same as my experience with Transfer on Death Deed. Just $10 to file the REETA. My preference is to also record the Death Certificate of the joint tenant, to make a public record that he/she died. So you can record the Death Certificate for $41 ($39 + $1 for back page + $1 cover page), and the REETA for $10. If you have questions about it, I would check with a local title officer. That's a good relationship to build anyway, and they tend to be pretty helpful with technical details like this, since they would be the one to insure the transaction if the Surviving Tenant ever wants to sell.

Listmates:

Client's partner passed away.  They held property in Jefferson County as Joint Tenants with Rights of Survivorship.  We sent in an Affidavit of Surviving Joint Tenant to clear title.  The treasurer's office sent it back stating that an excise tax affidavit had to be submitted and a $10 fee paid.  I have never had to do this before.  Have any of you experienced this?  Is this a new trend?
