One (1) is the Northeast Quarter, Two (2) is the Northwest Quarter, Three (3) is the Southwest Quarter, Four (4) is the Southeast Quarter.
This would be true whether talking about a quarter section or a quarter quarter.
In the referenced "42" the 4 is the Quarter Section, the 2 is the Quarter Quarter




I truthfully don't know the source of these conventions.

Thanks John! Maybe Pierce County only has a single Range that is west of Willamette Meridian, so they designate it as 00 to distinguish it from those east of WM?

Is the "42" method of designating quarter sections a recognized system somewhere besides Pierce County? And it works in opposite order of how they are written out? That is, 42 means SE NW, but that would be written out as "the NW 1/4 of SE 1/4?"

4: SE
3: NE or SW?
2: NW
1: NE or SW?

Range OO is Range 1 West...I don't recall why they use 00
Quarter 42 is the Northwest Quarter of the Southeast Quarter
The "4" refers to the Quarter section; the "2" refers to the Quarter Quarter

Section 23 Township 22 Range 00 Quarter 42

Huh? Does anyone understand what Range 00 and Quarter 42 means?
