[WSBARP] Designation of Ex-spouse as Beneficiary of Veterans life insurane policy

Listmates:

Medically retired veteran passed away. She was single at
time of death by reason of dissolution of marriage.

She had Veterans Life insurance policy and ex-husband
still listed as beneficiary.

I believe that RCW 11.07.010 would void the designation
and the proceeds of the policy should be paid to the estate.

VA says ex-husband has put in a claim and that they are
not bound by state law. It appears that they are going to pay benefits to
ex-husband over our objection.

I was told caller would refer this to his supervisor and
they would send me a letter.

Has anyone addressed this issue? Is the VA’s position that
our statute does not control correct?

                Appreciate any input.
