<p class="MsoNormal">Governor Ferguson a short time ago signed ESSB 5813 increasing, as of July 1, 2025, the Washington estate tax exemption to $3 million per person (indexing upward in 2026 onward) and increasing the top rate to 35%, effectively raising estate
taxes on those over $9 million. Family business exemption also matches the $3 million exemption figure. It also adds the 2.9% surcharge for capital gains over $1 million. Full history and text are here:
