You are correct. When you garnish earnings, the creditor must apply for and serve a new writ every 60 days until the debt is paid.</span><br /><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">That's why, unless the person is a high wage earner, it's sometimes preferable to garnish a bank account.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">You can also negotiate a "Voluntary Wage Assignment" where the person agrees to an amount that is paid monthly by employer until debt is paid.</span></div>
