Reminds of the time after my dad passed away and I went to the bank with the new tax id number for his now “Irrevocable Trust”. I was advised that my father had to come into the bank and make that change since he is the trustee and that the successor trustee has no authority since it is my Dad’s trust. It didn’t matter that I had a death certificate in my hand. I asked to speak with a manager, since I didn’t want to waste any more time with the bank officer. When I asked her what authority the bank had to disregard the court order, she said – because her legal dept said so. I responded that the only activity the account was going to have was the deposit of terms awarded to the minor if I had to go to court to stop the bank from touching this money.
