and I doubt that any bankruptcy judge would allow a debtor in bankruptcy to keep his or her house simply because he or she transferred it to a wholly-owned LLC prior to incurring a business debt. Even if Washington only allowed charging orders.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:6.0pt"><span style="color:#595959;mso-style-textfill-fill-color:#595959;mso-style-textfill-fill-alpha:100.0%">(In the context of a personal residence, I suspect that the debtor’s right to live in the house would be
considered a “share of the distributions due or to become due” for purposes of RCW 25.15.256, and the judge could, at the very least, issue a charging order whereby the debtor would be obligated to pay the creditor rent.)

debtor qualify for the bankruptcy homestead exemption for a house owned by an LLC? Also, transferring the house to an LLC would almost certainly constitute an event of default under the mortgage, so the debtor would risk losing his or her home to foreclosure,
even if no other claims arose.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:6.0pt"><span style="color:#595959">Protecting personal assets from business debts is typically pretty straightforward: operate the business in a (well-managed) LLC or corporation and purchase adequate insurance. (Of
