In other words if a teenager who is working a part-time job only makes $3000 in 2014 then they can only contribute $3000 to a Roth IRA. Knowing the minor's "taxable" income is important to ensure that a contribution does not exceed the allowed limits. apply. Most minor do not have earned income (as opposed to passive income) so the IRA is irrelevant.
