[WSBAPT] Town Hall on Entity Regulation Pilot Project

This was a very important and helpful zoom to attend. Bravo to Nick Pleasants and our section leaders for coordinating and inviting us.

I would just like to say to everybody on these lists that only the Supreme Court of our state can approve entity licenses, and every single lawyer or law student or citizen or anyone else on this list has a voice.

Everyone can write a letter to the Supreme Court. Everyone can object to anything they are considering. It is just so important for us as lawyers to remember that the Supreme Court is made up of humans, and even elected ones.

None of this "entity business" is inevitable, and none of it is entirely outside our control.

Waste zero time yelling at the Washington State Bar Association and its employees and committees. Give them useful feedback, yes. They want it.

But if you want to be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN SOME KEY SENTENCE OR TWO IS HEARD, send it to THE COURT. NINE COPIES if you wish to. They are public servants with power, yes, but not demigods.

Spend your time addressing a serious, respectful, but firm letter to the nine justices, five or something of whom are up for election this November.

Their duty is to protect THE PUBLIC. Our duty is to tell them where they are failing or may have blind spots.

As you may know, WSBA is engaging in a pilot project regarding regulating entities offering legal services. The Solo and Small Practice Section invites you to join an event they are hosting at noon today via Zoom – please see the below message from Nick Pleasants, Chair of the SSP Section:

We heard from a lot of members that you are concerned about entities (including those without individuals licensed to practice law) being allowed to deliver legal services in Washington.
