[WSBAPT] Oregon Probate Attorney

Hello Listservers,

I had a potential client call today who lives in Washington but was married to someone who recently died in Oregon.

He states that they were separated and he lived in Spokane and she lived in Multnomah County, Oregon, but he does not recall if they ever finalized their divorce.

She died in April and her mother has sent him paperwork asking him to disclaim his interest in her estate.

He is concerned that she might have credit card debt that he would be on the hook since they were still married and that her mom is asking him to disclaim the assets and then he’ll be stuck with the debts.

Is there someone licensed in Oregon that can give him some advice about this situation or to whom I can refer him?
