[WSBAPT] (off topic) Thank you - 9 years later

I would like to add my voice of gratitude for this listserv, and several others.
I am nearing my fiftieth year of practice, and I used to complain that estate planners did not have much opportunity to interact with their fellow estate planners. And then the internet and listservs arrived on the scene, and I no longer lack for company. I am active on four listservs: one Washington, one Oregon, and two national. I work primarily in Oregon, and so the Washington listserv helps to answer some of my Washington questions. But I try whenever possible to answer questions asked by others (restraining myself whenever I am unsure of the answer), and I try to answer more than I ask. If I can find a cite to support my answer, that boosts my confidence considerably.
As a result of the four listservs, whenever I attend a CLE program I meet people who believe that they know me, because they read my posts. Of course, they do know me, and I often know them. It is a pleasant surprise to meet a stranger who is really no stranger at all. The whole thing is supported by a great deal of collegiality. And for that I am grateful.
We warm ourselves before fires we did not build, and we drink from wells we did not dig.

Subject: [WSBAPT] (off topic) Thank you - 9 years later
Esteemed Colleagues -
I just realized that yesterday was the day, 9 years ago, that I began my adventure as a solo attorney. Switching my practice area from insurance coverage to estate planning/administration.
One of the very first things I did with the launch funding I had saved was to join this section and sign up for the listserv.
Since then, I have been called to volunteer for the WSBA and the RPPT Section, engaged in policy discussions and legislation, and have met many of you at conferences, over zoom, phone calls, and emails.
It was not easy deciding to switch practice areas. It was even harder to teach myself what I needed to know - and I guess that is the kicker. I didn't teach myself. I had help.
So to every single person who has read my emails and responded with questions, tips, forms, advice (best advice I got early on - fire the bad client!), or general support for me as your colleague and not as a competitor - I say thank you.
The Real Property - Probate & Trust section is the largest group of attorneys in the WSBA. There are literally thousands of us. We all do things in our own unique ways and I am truly grateful for what I have been built and the support that we provide one another.
Thank you for the past 9 years, and for tomorrow.
Cheers,
Brent
