It wouldn't hurt, just to avoid the crazy argument that he forgot them.
But to answer your question, no, it is not required.  If fact, it is not required to list his own children. But it is a very good idea.

Client has three step-children from two wives. He is leaving assets to one stepson (who he raised), but nothing to the others (only married to this wife for a short time). Do I need to mention all step children in the family section?
