You could start by contacting a local museum professional from the Seattle
Art Museum or the Burke Museum. They often deal with foreign objects and
might be of help. There is also a Museum Studies program at the UW, and it
might be a research project for some students?

Good luck.

Subject: [WSBAPT] [Off Topic, but Interesting] Legal Counsel Needed for
Return of Rare Ivory Crucifix to France

I had a client email me about an interesting and unusual matter-way outside
of my legal practice. I'm hoping someone on the listserv might have a
referral for me.

My client said:

I've inherited an ivory crucifix from my grandmother that she brought out of
France in 1952, one that she'd rescued from behind enemy lines in 1914 while
helping to evacuate a military hospital in eastern France. I now wish to
repatriate it to France. I'm in contact with French department of cultural
affairs who have an interest in it.believed to date from the 1700's. I need
an attorney to advise me about what legalities, particularly ESA
qualifications to carry it out of USA.

Anyone out there have any ideas on who I could refer this client to?

Thank you in advance!

Jared
